Helping the Ecuadorian Ministry of Agriculture with a White Paper on protecting and prioritizing biodiversity in compliance with the government’s constitution and the philosophy behind it.
Ecuador is the first country in the world where the constitution gives rights to biodiversity at the same level as it does to its people. Developing the implementing legal framework is however complex and challenging. Our team was called in as special advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture to provide assistance and to write a white paper on how to protect and sustainably use agrobiodiversity in compliance with the constitution and the philosophy subtending it.
Policy texts and political decisions should be based on well-informed and scientifically sound information that can be generated by ad hoc research or should derive from hands-on experience gained from working with (inter)national official and non-governmental organisations.
