Rethinking the links between farm modernization, rural development and resilience in a world of increasing demands and finite resources
15 major case studies all over Europe will improve our understanding of the multiple mechanisms underlying rural prosperity and resilience. Each case is an expression of innovative development trajectories, highlighting potential synergies between farm modernization and sustainable rural development. For every case we investigate: 1) the key features of resilient agricultural systems; 2) how to shift from a focus on productivity to effectiveness; 3) the strengths and weaknesses of present governance structures; and 4) the role of human resources and social learning. The overall aim is to translate the concept of a knowledge-based society into a framework for agricultural and rural development.
