Coping with floods and droughts by developing stochastic models for climate variables

Coping with hydrological extremes, floods, and droughts has been a major concern because of their devastating consequences on human livelihood and socio-economic development. Due to the low frequency of extremes, models are needed that can then be used for decision support in water management. We develop and/or improve stochastic models for climate variables such as rainfall, temperature and evaporation.

Using these statistics, water managers can make adequate decisions.
