A new emulsion stabilising agent INUTEC® can replace petrochemical agents by plant-derived derivatives, exemplifying the use of renewable resources in consumer applications.

Inulin is a natural polyfructose biopolymer, commercially isolated from chicory root, and opens up a variety of applications after minor chemical modifications. The SynBioC research group, in collaboration with Orafti, has developed an innovative type of emulsion stabilizing agent based on inulin after a one-step chemical modification leading to new physico-chemical properties with excellent surface active properties to be used in cosmetic and industrial applications: INUTEC. At the moment the compound is industrially produced and applied in commercial eye creams and body-mists.

This developed emulsion stabilising agent INUTEC® opens up possibilities to replace petrochemical emulsifying agents by plant-derived derivatives, exemplifying the use of renewable resources in consumer applications.
