A model has been developed to advise operators on the economic optimization of biogas yield, thus creating additional renewable energy by means of anaerobic digestion
The biogas sector converts waste streams into renewable energy by means of anaerobic digestion. The main challenge digester operators are facing is the temporal variation in availability and price of input streams. Additionally, the demand for digester outputs such as heat and electricity can fluctuate even during the course of the day. An optimisation model has been developed to advise digester operators on the optimal input mix and retention time of waste streams.
More renewable energy at a lower cost becomes possible.
